Le Mont Saint Michel

How is it possible to eat the best food, have permanent accommodation, hold a position of stature in the community, have the best available medical care, have permanent tenure in a company that owns all the local land and businesses, and yet still be able to claim to labor under a vow of poverty? If you did that sort of thing today the tax office would soon tell you that you were kidding yourself. It certainly was a good lurk that these Benedictine monks were on. Maybe I should start a life of serenity, balance and contemplation, and get everyone from the local area to donate two days of labor per year.
